Museum Guidelines & Visitor Policies
We want to keep our exhibits safe and intact, so please keep a reasonable distance from and do not touch any artwork on display at the Institute. While touching paintings, photographs, sculptures and other objects may seem harmless, it can leave oils, acids and residues behind on the art. Under some circumstances, we may feature an exhibition that encourages contact with the artwork. Please check with museum staff with any questions regarding this subject.
Photography in the Museum:
Photography of original works of art from the Peterson Collection permitted only upon written permission from museum staff. Loaned exhibitions may not be photographed by the general public without the prior consent of the lender. Only specific areas and rooms within the building will be considered. Please check with our Visitor Services staff before taking a photograph.
The Institute reserves the right to withhold and/or withdraw permission to photograph or videotape anywhere on its premises. No photographs or videotapes may be reproduced, distributed, or sold without permission from the Institute.
Wedding and other types of photography are permitted outside on the grounds of the Roger Tory Peterson Institute. Please notify staff prior to arrival on the property. We appreciate a donation to support the Institute in honor of your special day.
Wedding and commercial photographs are not permitted inside the Institute. We thank you for your cooperation.
The use of cell phones can be disruptive to other visitors. We ask that you please refrain from using cell phones inside our galleries. If you receive or need to make a call, please step outside the galleries for the duration of your phone call.
Food and Drinks:
Food and drinks are not permitted inside the galleries except for special circumstances such as art exhibit opening receptions and other public programs.
Smoking is not permitted on the grounds of the Institute, which is part of the Jamestown Community College smoke-free campus.
Thank you for your cooperation in support of caring for our exhibitions and private collection!
