RTPI to Host Forest Pest Task Force Meeting On Wednesday, September 13th from 1:00-3:00PM, the Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History will be hosting the fall Chautauqua County Forest Pest Task Force meeting. The task force will discuss ongoing forest pest issues such as the spread of Emerald Ash Borer and subsequent die back of ash, Hemlock Woolly Adelgid and upcoming surveys and citizen science training opportunities, and Oak Wilt and other new diseases or pests impacting our local, regional and state forests. The public is welcome to attend. The Roger Tory Peterson Institute is located at 311 Curtis Street, Jamestown NY.

Rizos works in a variety of media, including bronze sculptures, paintings, drawings, pastels, etchings, lithographs and woodcuts.

Museum Day Live! is an annual celebration of boundless curiosity hosted by Smithsonian magazine. Participating museums and cultural institutions across the country provide entry to anyone presenting a Museum Day Live! ticket. Tickets will be available to download on August 25, 2017. * Bird Drawing & JournalingBird Drawing & Journaling

Saturday, September 23 Bird Drawing & Journaling Workshop with Neil Rizos 1:00pm – 4:00pm $25/person (10% RTPI donor discount) Registration required Rizos will lead this unique sketching workshop that teaches and inspires a new view of birds and bird behavior. This program will feature bird skin specimens from the Peterson Collection to aid in the accuracy of participants’ work. All levels are welcome! Participants will need to bring their own drawing pad, size 11 x 14 or larger, your favorite drawing materials and/or 2B or softer drawing pencils, as well as a photo of a bird you want to draw, either on a digital device or a printout.
