Open Call for Entries for Art that Matters to the Planet 2022

The Roger Tory Peterson Institute is a leader for the study, exhibition and nurturing of art that matters to the planet. Through world class exhibitions and programs, RTPI illuminates the beauty of nature; challenges us to confront environmental issues of regional, national and global concern; and inspires us to preserve the earth’s biodiversity – Excerpt from RTPI’s mission statement.

What is “art that matters to the planet?”

While we have thoughts and ideas regarding the answer to that question, we are seeking artists interested in collaborating with us to create an exhibition entitled, Art that Matters to the Planet.

This exhibition, the first iteration of what will become our annual signature exhibition, will open at the Roger Tory Peterson Institute on July 27, 2022 and run through October 30, 2022.

Art that Matters to the Planet isn’t your typical exhibition. We’ll invite each artist selected for the exhibition to collaborate on how best to describe their artistic process. Selected artists may exhibit finished works, preparatory drawings, or field sketches. Accompanying narratives, photographs and videos may be important for some, not so much for others. Whatever it takes to help audiences understand how and why artists use art to illuminate the beauty of nature, challenge us to confront environmental issues of regional, national or global concern; and inspire us to preserve the earth’s biodiversity.

If you are an artist, please look over the open call for entries and consider applying to be part of this exhibition. If you know artists whose work resonates with RTPI’s mission and the description of this exhibition, please send them the link to the open call for entries.

In a world of exceptional natural beauty and overwhelming environmental challenges, help us make the case to a broader, more diverse audience, that art not only matters, it is essential to create a better world.

The entry deadline is 11:59 p.m. MDT on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. All applications are through Café. See the full open call for entries for all of the details.
