Provide for RTPI in Your Will

The Peterson Legacy Society

Is the Roger Tory Peterson Institute in your will? Join me in making a lasting gift to ensure the future of nature education.

Don Powers: Peterson Legacy Society Member

Dear Friends,

I am a member of the Peterson Legacy Society, because I have provided for the Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History in my estate plans.

I chose to make a lasting gift to support nature education, because like Roger Tory Peterson, I know nature education it works. The more we learn, the more we can teach others – about what is in our own back yards, about how to explore, study and enjoy the beauty of nature, and about how that leads to preserving it for future generations. Nature has enriched my life in many ways, and I want to give back. I hope you’ll consider joining me.

The Peterson Legacy Society is an honorary organization of individuals who have chosen to support the mission and work of the Roger Tory Peterson Institute through a lasting gift. The Society gives the Institute the ability to properly recognize and express its appreciation to those individuals who notify the Institute of their intentions. To join, simply inform RTPI in writing that it is included in your will or estate plans.

Ways to Include RTPI in Your Estate Plans

Bequests

One of the simplest ways to make a gift is through your will or trust. You can name RTPI as a direct beneficiary of specific assets, of a portion of your estate, or of a residual amount after payment of other obligations and bequests.
Insurance and Retirement Plans
You can name the Institute as a beneficiary of a life insurance plan, an IRA, SEP, 401K, 403B, or most common qualified plans. The Institute can be named as beneficiary for a part or all the proceeds of these plans.

Life Income Gifts
Charitable life income arrangements can allow you to increase your income, receive a charitable income tax deduction, avoid a capital gains tax, and support RTPI. Two frequently used life income gifts are the charitable gift annuity and the charitable remainder unitrust.

“Conservation is not just an ideal that we read about; it works.” ~Roger Tory Peterson

Because of the complexity of estate planning, it is important that your attorney and tax consultant be involved in structuring your estate. RTPI’s development staff is always available to consult with your advisors. You can start by contacting RTPI’s Development Department at 716-665-2473, ext. 226 or email: [email protected]
