We regret to announce the cancellation of the 2020 Project Wild America Youth Ambassadors program. In response to the Covid situation, we’ve had to cancel many of our in-person programs this summer. We look forward to 2021 and growing this program in the years ahead.

What is a Project Wild America (PWA) Youth Ambassador?

A Project Wild America Youth Ambassador is a local high school student that is interested in learning more about the natural resources and imperiled species that exist within the city of Jamestown, New York.

What We Do

  • Support ongoing and new studies on local flora and fauna that exist within the Chadakoin River corridor
  • Assess habitat quality and impact of development
  • Explore the Chadakoin River’s recreation and economic value
  • Communicate our findings and positive stewardship messages to residents, policy makers and area visitors

Who We Are

We are a crew of eight high school Youth Ambassadors from Jamestown High and surrounding schools supervised by two college students from Jamestown Community College. We work closely with RTPI biologists and educators in order to learn more about the species that live within our community and demonstrate to others how we can be good stewards of the natural resources around us.

Where We Work

This summer we will primarily work in the Jamestown section of the Chadakoin River corridor. This area is home to a number of rare aquatic and terrestrial species. We are still learning about them, and we intend to monitor and study them throughout the season. Through this program we will gain experience in biological field techniques as well as educational methods and much more!
