Roger’s Birdday Bash

What do you call a party that celebrates the 113th anniversary of the birth of the person who helped make birding an international phenomenon? Roger’s Birdday Bash, of course.

We are throwing a party with great food (Basil & Bones for entrees and sides and Elegant Edibles for dessert), great drinks (Johnson Estate Wines and Big Inlet Beer & Cider), and great music (Adam McKillip of the Probables).

What to do besides eat, drink, and listen to music? Take a guided bird walk. Youths can take a nature discovery walk. Take a look at the new Art and Nature Lab mural depicting Roger’s life and talk with the mural artist. Take a guided gallery walk with a curator or a biologist. Sign Roger’s giant birthday card (the interactive art wall) by drawing a plant or animal.

Did we mention the raffle with three great prizes – Baltimore Oriole decorator print by Roger Tory Peterson (pictured), either a copy of “Birdwatcher” the biography of Roger Tory Peterson or the Peterson Field Guide or your choice, and a RTPI logo shirt (T-shirt or polo-style shirt).  One prize per winning ticket. Tickets prices: 1 for $2 or 3 for $5. You do not have to be present to win or to buy raffle tickets. Raffle tickets must be purchased by 4pm on Saturday, August 28. The drawing will be held at the conclusion of the event and the winners will be notified. To obtain raffle tickets, either come to RTPI during the Birdday Bash or call 716.665.2473.

There is no charge to come to Roger’s birdday bash. Admission to the galleries is not included in the Birdday bash but you get $2 off museum admission if you want to view the current exhibitions. Plus, you get 10% off all museum store purchases and 10% off memberships all day.

Oh, and free Birdday cupcakes for the first 100 people.
