The Life of Roger Tory Peterson

Starting September 25, 2026, the Anderson Gallery will permanently display biographical objects belonging to Roger Tory Peterson, alongside a rotating body of artworks. Moving from the Tower Room Hallway, guests will be able to learn about Roger Tory Peterson’s life in a more central location in the museum: objects like his 1925 Jamestown High School yearbook, his 1980 Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Jimmy Carter, and his red Antarctica jacket will remain on view and now be located right off the front lobby. Artworks will rotate throughout the year; artworks spanning Roger Tory Peterson’s decades-long career that include field guide plates, masterworks, early paintings, World of Birds paintings, and pen and inks from books such as Wild America and the Birdwatcher’s Anthology.
