Every spring from March 15 – May 15, birders man the Ripley Hawk Watch to witness the spectacle of raptor and passerine migration. Each season an average of 15,000-20,000 raptors pass over the site. Local birders from the Ripley Hawk Watch will deliver a presentation on the mission and importance of the Watch and recruit interested individuals to assist with the count.

NY Breeding Bird Atlas + Bentley Birding Challenges + Guided Bird Walk – Saturday, June 22 – 9 am-12 pm
Level: Intermediate to Advanced
Location: Roger Tory Peterson Institute, Jamestown
Contact: birdingchautauquawarren@gmail.com
Leaders: Devin Banning and Katelyn Davis

The Peterson Preserve at the Roger Tory Peterson Institute features 27 acres of diverse habitat, including a mature hemlock grove, pollinator meadows, vernal wetlands, creeks and ponds, early successional wooded areas, and an Eastern Bluebird trail. Over 140 bird species have been observed along the trails at the preserve. Our group should be able to find several species of warblers and some migrants on the tail end of spring migration! Make sure to bring your own binoculars, although there may be a pair or two to borrow.

Stay tuned for more great walks to be added soon!
