Art After 5 – September 14

Enjoy the great art, great food, a diverse selection of wine, beer, cider, and non-alcoholic beverages, and the wonderful ambience of the Lodge at RTPI.

Sara Baker Michalak, based in Dunkirk, NY, will join us to discuss her artistic practice and her thoughts about why art matters to the planet. Sara creates mixed-media artworks which reflect the beauty of the natural world. She often begins with recognizable imagery, which she gradually develops into abstraction. With her body of work, Inundations, her materials and technique are based largely on exploring options for reducing her carbon footprint. In her collaged “papercloth” works, we can see pairings: light and dark, ordered and random, known and unknown. With her art, she explores humanity’s place in the natural world in hopes that viewers will reflect on all that the natural world holds, and our critical role in preserving it.
