David Cook: Evolution and Inspiration of a Nature Photographer

RTPI is thrilled to welcome back photographer David Cook, one of 15 artist who was featured in the 2022 Art that Matters to the Planet exhibition.

David Cook will present a virtual talk about his evolution as a nature photographer, his inspirations and techniques, and a behind-the-scenes look at his Avian Apparitions series of bird photography. Cook’s Avian Apparitions series explores the artistry of birds in flight. With his dynamic images, Cook reveals the ballet-like motion of the egret’s wing, the graceful curves of a pelican, and the elegance of a Sandhill Crane.

Cook’s practice is inspired by his training as a Texas Master Naturalist, a passion for the natural world, and by Rachel Carson’s book, The Sense of Wonder, in which Carson describes a sense of wonder “so indestructible that it would last throughout life.” With his photography, Cook hopes that he can inspire others to find and nurture their own sense of wonder.
