Broken Nature: Featuring Artists of the North Shore Arts Alliance

Broken Nature features work by artists who envision a more sustainable future. Through their paintings, photography, and sculpture, they tell stories about our relationships with and interrelationships within the natural world. Their work encourages us to observe the world around us in new ways, and inspires us to change our thinking, our habits, and our lives in support of a healthier planet.

In the works shown here, artists address topics such as species and habitat protection, climate change, and sustainability. Paired with the artists’ statements about the messages of their work, we learn how art can raise awareness about and promote solutions for environmental protection. The artists featured in Broken Nature remind us that in order to effect change on behalf of the environment, we must first view ourselves as part of–rather than separate from–the natural world.

The North Shore Arts Alliance is a nonprofit arts organization dedicated to artists of every level in Chautauqua County. It strives to promote, mentor and encourage artists in every field, from painting, fiber and sculpture to creative clay work.

Broken Nature was curated by Nancy Nixon Ensign.
